Hopewell Borough has a new borough administrator after a months-long search that began in May.

The Borough Council unanimously approved the hiring of Douglas Walker through a resolution at the governing body’s Nov. 2 meeting.

He will officially take over the position next month on Dec. 4.

“I’m really looking forward to starting on [Dec. 4] and looking forward to getting in here and getting around,” Walker said. “Thank you very much for your support.”

Council President Charles Morehouse added, “You are more than welcome, and we really do look forward to having you on board. I think we will have some fun.”

The administrator will earn a $125,000 annual salary and the position has a customary six-month probationary period, according to the resolution.

Borough Council hired Metuchen-based Jersey Professional Management [JPM] in mid-May to conduct the search for a new administrator to replace Maggie Schmitt.

JPM had been providing temporary administrator services while they conducted the search.

The search was needed when Schmitt resigned the position earlier this year. Schmitt has succeeded longtime former Borough Administrator Michele Hovan, who retired.
