Police investigating similar incident at Quaker Bridge Mall
A 19-year-old Hamilton Township man is facing multiple weapons offenses for allegedly firing a toy gun containing water-filled projectiles that struck another man on the Rider University campus June 26, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
The suspect was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon on an educational institution, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and simple assault (negligent cause of bodily harm), police said.
The victim was walking on campus when a car drove past him and fired a weapon toward him around 10 a.m. June 26, police said. A projectile struck him on the right temple, causing minor pain and discomfort, police said.
Police located the vehicle and its occupants a short time later on campus. A plastic camouflage toy gun that fires water-filled projectiles was recovered, along with a BB gun and an extendable baton, police said.
The suspect was taken to the Mercer County Correction Center, awaiting a detention hearing.
Police are also investigating a similar incident that occurred in the Quaker Bridge Mall parking lot near the upper level of Macy’s on June 23 around 8:15 p.m.
