Dog dies in house fire

Residents and adjacent homes were evacuated, no injuries were reported

A dog died in fire at a Hillsborough Road home May 11, according to the Hillsborough Township Police Department.

Police and fire officials responded to a report of a structure fire at approximately 8:15 p.m., police said.

Arriving units discovered the attached garage of the home was fully engulfed in flames and heavy dark smoke. The fire quickly spread to the main area of the home before Hillsborough Township Fire Department firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

The residence and adjacent homes were evacuated during the incident and there were no injuries sustained, police said.

The homeowner’s dog was trapped in the home and unfortunately did not survive, police said. The fire is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation by detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Hillsborough Township Bureau of Fire Safety.
