Two Trenton teens charged with breaking into cars in Lawrence

Two Trenton teens, one of whom allegedly had a Glock handgun in his possession, have been charged for allegedly breaking into a car parked at the Society Hill townhouse development near the Brunswick Traffic Circle, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.

The two men, ages 17 and 18, were charged with burglary and criminal mischief on Sept 17, police said.

The 18-year-old man was also charged with hindering apprehension for allegedly providing a false name, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a high-capacity magazine, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of burglar tools, police said.

Police officers have been patrolling several township neighborhood in response to on-going vehicle break-ins when they saw two men, clad in dark clothing and wearing full-face coverings, in the area of Wittenborn Drive in the Society Hill development around 3 a.m. Sept. 17, police said.

While the two officers who spotted the men kept them under surveillance, additional police officers discovered several vehicles in the area that appeared to have been entered, police said. The window on one of the cars on Sherman Place had been shattered.

Police officers stopped the two men and conducted an on-scene investigation. They were quickly identified as allegedly being responsible for shattering the window on the car parked on Sherman Place, police said.

The 17-year-old man was processed and released. The 18-year-old man was taken to the Mercer County Correction Center.
