TINTON FALLS – Members of the Tinton Falls Borough Council are proposing to prohibit parking on a street that intersects with Hope Road.

During a meeting on Aug. 9, council members introduced an ordinance that will, if adopted, amend the borough code and designate Centre Plaza as a no parking street. Both sides and the entire length of Centre Plaza will be added to the “parking prohibited at all times” section of the borough code.

A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for Sept. 6. The governing body may adopt the ordinance that evening.

According to the ordinance, the Department of Public Works will install “No Parking” signs on Centre Plaza upon the ordinance’s adoption.

Centre Plaza is to the west of Hope Road, which it is connected to through an intersection. Hope Road is the only access to Centre Plaza; no other roads are connected. Two hotels are on Centre Plaza – Quality Suites and the Red Roof Inn.

In other business, the council members extended the completion date in a contract with T.R. Weniger Inc., Piscataway, for the Shrewsbury Avenue pump station upgrades.

According to a letter from Borough Engineer Thomas Neff to Borough Clerk Michelle Hutchinson, the contract completion date will be extended from June 16 to Oct. 31. The extension of time is due to unforeseen material delivery delays as a result of supply chain issues.

No increases or decreases have been made in the $423,802 contract for the Shrewsbury Avenue pump station upgrades. According to Neff, the only purpose of the action was to extend the contract completion date.
