Hopewell Borough resident suffers burns and smoke inhalation in early morning fire

A Hopewell Borough resident suffered burn injuries and smoke inhalation in an early morning house fire, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The fire at the Hart Avenue home was reported by the resident at 4:30 a.m. Aug. 23, police said. When Hopewell Township police officers arrived, they found the resident outside of the house. The rear of the house was fully involved in flames.

Police officers and emergency medical personnel treated the resident for injuries. The resident was taken to a burn center for treatment, police said.

Firefighters from the Hopewell Fire Department and five neighboring fire departments knocked down the fire and prevented widespread damage, police said. The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage.

The Hopewell Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from the Union Fire Co., the Pennington Fire Co., the East Windsor Fire Co., the Ewing Township Fire Department and the Princeton Fire Department, police said.

Emergency medical technicians from the Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit responded, along with Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Pennington First Aid Squad and Capital Health Systems paramedics.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
