Center Players Dessert Theater will hold auditions for a production of the world premiere of “A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold Borough. The play was written by Gary Morgenstein and will be directed by Bernice Garfield-Szita.

Audition dates are Dec. 17 from 7-9 p.m., and callbacks are on Dec. 19 from
7-9 p.m. Performance dates are Feb. 11-27, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and
Sundays at 2 p.m., according to a press release. This is a non-union, no pay production.

“A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx” is a multi-generational comedy/drama set against the backdrop of the late 1960s. It is a poignant glimpse of a Jewish working class family trying to adjust to the changes in the world around them and their own family conflicts, according to the press release.

Sides from the play will be provided. Those auditioning should bring a resume and headshot if available and proof of COVID vaccination. COVID protocols will be followed; masks will be required when not on stage, and all cast, crew and patrons must be vaccinated, according to the press release.
