MARLBORO – Mayor Jonathan Hornik has been invited to give testimony at a New Jersey State Assembly Committee hearing regarding Jersey Central Power and Light’s storm response to the recent outages following Tropical Storm Isaias.
The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Aug. 19. Residents can view the hearing live on https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/ and using the link in the center of the screen to “Live Proceedings.”
Hornik, along with Metuchen Mayor Jon Busch and Robbinsville Mayor David Fried, will present testimony regarding their municipality’s experience following Isaias, according to a press release from Marlboro.
Greg Kierce, the Director of Emergency Management and Operations for Jersey City, will then offer his comments.
Hornik said, “I am thankful to Speaker Craig Coughlin and the Assembly for the
opportunity to speak before this committee.
“It is my hope this hearing will lead to JCP&L being held accountable, that the Board of Public Utilities will require JCP&L to invest in measurable and concrete storm response, require them to implement meaningful system upgrades and acceptable levels of disaster response, and substantially improve their communication with the public and local elected officials.
“JCP&L should either fix the problem or be subject to substantial penalties and consequences,” Hornik said.
