Cranbury Day has had vendors and residents celebrating everything Cranbury for more than 30 years, but in 2020 the annual tradition will have to wait.
The annual celebration that features businesses, non-profits, civic organizations, music and food has been cancelled. Cranbury officials announced the cancellation on Aug. 12 and sited the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the decision to cancel.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing and gathering restrictions, the in-person tradition will now occur in the fall of 2021, according to the township.
Cranbury Day is organized by the Cranbury Business Association (CBA) and has featured a signature favorite the Mummers Parade. The Mummers are believed to be the oldest folk festival parade in the United States. Dressed in elaborate garb, the group is most-known for its annual New Year’s Day parade in Philadelphia.
With a mixture of cultures from Swedish, Irish, English, Finnish, European and German backgrounds, the Mummers marched on Main Street to begin 2019’s festivities.
Live music is also performed throughout the day and joined by the Cranbury Lions Club’s annual duck race.
