EDISON – A 68-year-old Colonia man is facing charges of driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed his car through the front window of a Verizon store at the Inman Grove Shopping Center.

The incident occurred at the shopping center on Inman Avenue at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, according to Edison police. The driver told officers who responded to the scene that his foot slipped off the brake peddle and hit the gas after he pulled into a parking space to eat takeout food, police said.

As a result, the driver’s leased Lexus RX went through the front window of the store, which was closed at the time, police said.

Police Officer Jonathan Kole took the man into custody after reportedly smelling alcohol on the driver. A subsequent Breathalyzer test led to the man’s arrest for DUI and other motor vehicle charges related to the crash being filed, police said.
