The Bordentown Township Police Department reported charges against a Trenton man for an alleged vehicle burglary.
The man in custody, Michael Ruiz, 44, of South Broad Street in Trenton, was charged with offenses for burglary, theft and criminal mischief related to an incident that allegedly happened in a township parking lot.
On the morning of June 3, township police officials reported an overnight burglary of a vehicle in the Acme Supermarket parking lot on the border of Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro Township between Dunns Mill Road and Rising Sun Road.
Police reported that a Dodge Journey car parked in the Acme Supermarket parking lot had been broken into, where an investigation revealed that a suspect shattered the vehicle’s passenger side window and stole a bag from its interior containing $242 worth of property.
According to police, officers checked the supermarket’s surveillance video and determined that this incident occurred around 2:20 a.m., and the suspect was operating a white Ford-250 vehicle.
After a follow-up investigation by the township police, officials said that they found a report from a resident who had observed this same Ford vehicle and its operator acting suspiciously at the Hillview Plaza around 2:45 am the morning of June 3 as well.
Police said that the resident provided the vehicle’s license plate number to officials and the investigation led to a warrant being issued for its registered owner.
On June 24, police said they apprehended Ruiz in Trenton, and he was committed to the Burlington County Jail.
Township police chief Chief Pesce said he commended the resident who reported the incident, and said he felt the tip was instrumental in identifying the suspect in this case.
Pesce also added that the police department is grateful for the partnership with the community to respond and react in a timely matter to alleged criminal acts.
