Bordentown Township police officers arrested three people suspected of being involved in the fraudulent purchase of cell phones on Nov. 3.
According to police, officers responded to an AT&T store on Route 130 after an employee reported a possible fraud in progress.
The report prompted an investigation by police which determined store employees recognized two customers as being the subjects of a recent internal fraud alert, and that the customers were actively trying to purchase an iPhone X using fraudulent identification.
Police said two individuals were taken into custody and identified as a 22-year-old male resident of the Bronx, N.Y., and a 24-year-old female resident of Reading, Pa. Police said the individual from Reading was found to be in possession of a fraudulent Connecticut identification card at the time of her arrest.
Police said later that day, officers stopped a Chrysler 300 that attempted to leave the AT&T store’s parking lot. The vehicle was occupied by a 22-year-old male resident of the Bronx, N.Y. Police determined the 22-year-old male had driven the other two suspects to the store.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of fraudulent identification cards and counterfeit credit cards, and several receipts from recent iPhone X purchases that had been made at AT&T stores in New Jersey and New York.
Police said more than $2,000 cash was seized from the three individuals. They were charged with forgery, conspiracy, criminal attempt and theft by deception. Two suspects were released on summonses and one suspect was lodged at the Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing, according to police.
