Julie Blake made the following pledge in her campaign literature when running for Hopewell Township Committee: “Julie Blake is committed to serving the people of Hopewell Township and therefore will not accept any campaign contributions from developers, contractors, corporations, consultants, employees or others who might stand to gain financially from the outcome of this election.“
However, when you look at her contributors report filed with the state of New Jersey, you will see that Committeewoman Blake did in fact accept contributions that contradict her pledge. A significant sum was accepted from the Northeast Council of Carpenters Union in Edison, New Jersey. Julie Blake broke her campaign pledge and put her ability to impartially judge construction projects under suspicion.
On Monday, Jan. 4, Julie Blake took the oath of office for Township Committee and additionally was appointed by the mayor and sworn in as a member of the township Planning Board.
Will Committeewoman Blake now recuse herself from all discussions and votes affecting construction projects that would result in financial gain for the carpenters union and any others who contributed to her campaign?
